Zenxi – Chinese Restaurant

Zenxi chelmsfordZenxi on Baddow Road is not only one of Chelmsford’s finest Chinese restaurants, but also one of the best restaurants in town.

  • 68 Baddow Road, Chelmsford, Essex CM2 0DL
  • Tel: 01245 358468

The restaurant is very large, spanning two floors. The entrance opens into a lounge area next to the bar and beyond and upstairs is seating dining. The dining area is spacious with plenty of space between tables. The kitchen is to the rear (you can see the chef’s from Parkway).

What makes Zenxi special is the service, which was professional, attentive, polite and informative. All questions about the food were answered well and the waiters were always close by.

The food was fantastic too. Portions were well presented, tasty and hot. The prawn crackers were huge (a little too many really) and the desserts were delicious; where else in Chelmsford can you eat deep fried ice cream and mango?

Zenxi chelmsford food

Prawn crackers and a traditional Chinese platter to share with spring rolls, satay chicken, Peking style ribs, sesame prawn toast and plenty of crispy seaweed

The sesame prawn toast was the best I have ever tasted, made with whole prawns too. The ribs were very tender and the satay chicken succulent. The mains were good too – although not as spicy as I was expecting. The Chinese green tea was also delicious and one pot was refilled all evening.

Zenxi is a great restaurant with excellent food and service. Well worth a visit!

  • It was the first pub in town to trial a no smoking policy years before the ban on smoking in public places.

Siam Cottage

Siam Cottage is a Thai restaurant on Moulsham Street. Excellent food and service from a traditional Thai restaurant that serves excellent Thai curries.

Siam Cottage is one of the most authentically decorated Asian restaurants in Chelmsford; you get a real feel for the Orient when dining. The Service is nothing but exceptional too.

Caution: the Tom Yum soup is spicy hot and might make you cry.

Gulshan Indian Restaurant

The Gulshan Indian restaurant on New Street is the best curry house near Chelmsford’s railway station.

Service is always good and the food great. Certainly the best option if you are out in the Duke Street area or planning to catch a train home afterwards.
